This series of courses aims at closing the gap between bench scientists and data they experimentally generate. They provide an overview of statistical methods and computational environment to successfully manipulate, analyse and visualize life science data.

BIOINFORMATICS

Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding biological data. As an interdisciplinary field of science, bioinformatics combines computer science, statistics, mathematics, and engineering to analyze and interpret life science data. It is both an umbrella term for the body of life science studies that use computer programming as part of their methodology, as well as a reference to specific analysis "pipelines" that are repeatedly used, particularly in the field of genomics. Participants of this course will obtain hands-on knowlage of existing software resources built arround computational solutions as well as acquire elementary programming skills required for fast and flexible utilization of life science data.

STATISTICS & R

Statistics and R course provides participants with the basic statistical methods used in life sciences and familiarize them with the data analysis framework based around the R statistical package.

The course introduces participants with:

R statistical framework
Rstudio environment
Packages, modules
Reading and manipulating datasets
Exploratory and descriptive statistics
Statistical distributions and testing
Plotting

NEXT GENERATION SEQUENCING ANALYSIS

Next generation sequencing analysis course provides participants with the hands-on approach to analysing high-throughput genomic experiments, from the instrument output (DNA or RNA sequence) to relevant biological and biomedical knowledge.

The course introduces participants with:

Instrument output formats from DNA-seq, RNA-seq and ChIP-seq runs
Reference mapping
Visualization of genomic tracks
Expression quantification and analysis (RNASeq)
Variant detection

SEARCHING &
DATA MINING

Data mining and search strategies are intrinsically intengled areas in life science and basis of the "knowledge discovery in databases" processes. The course offers its participants leading edge knowladge and best practice guides in:

Searching databases: Entrez, Ensembl
Extracting data using eutilities and Ensembl-API
Data mining utilizing the extracted data
Data processing (AI & pattern recognition)
